The handmade is about process over final product, because in life (and, I believe, art) the final product is never truly final. We may burn the fabric seams, sign the bottom corner of the canvas, or name the save file “_FINAL_FOR REAL THIS TIME”, but the project never ends there. It takes on new life in the next hands it is passed to.

My creative praxis of the handmade is collective process; it is a perpetually unfinished, in motion, and never-ending spiral. The idea of the handmade asks us to reorganize how we view success and achievement so that we may create space for everyday efforts to exist as a site of value. To recognize the ordinary motions of crafting a life, weaving together our gathering baskets strand-by-strand. In centering the handmade, we center process. In so doing, we center friction, and tension, and difficulty, and all the challenges that ought to come along with creating, because the process is the art itself.
